Men as Fathers

Becoming a father for the first time can be a life-changing experience. The Men as Fathers project sought to find out just how life-changing it is by following up a sample of 19 fathers from the South East of England, whose entry into first time fatherhood has previously been charted (ESRC 1999 -2001). The project explored the early years of fatherhood, and the implications for the men's identities, relationships and lives over time. The follow up project recruited a further 16 men from South Wales who were followed up on three occasions over 18 months. The project produced over 130 interview and focus group transcripts.
